Sinn Féin councillor Colly Kelly has praised the work efforts of community activists in Creggan to ensure a peaceful weekend for local residents.
Speaking after taking part in community engagement in the area over the weekend, councillor Kelly said;
“Following a number of incidents of anti-community activity in Creggan last weekend, councillor Kevin Campbell and I engaged with local residents to come up with a solution.
“We called a meeting of community stakeholders including local residents, businesses, Community Restorative Justice and a number of statutory agencies including the Housing Executive and the PSNI.
“Over the weekend councillor Kevin Campbell and I joined others from the community on the streets to positively engage with young people and local residents.
“Thankfully the weekend passed without incident and local residents were able to get peace.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and engage with the local community to avoid repetition of problems in the future.” Ends/Críoch
