Magee to open up facilities for local residents -Cooper

Sinn Féin Councillor for the university Mickey Cooper area has announced that a leaflet will be delivered to nearby residents in the coming days outlining a range of facilities and programmes which will be made available to the public on the Magee campus over the summer months and beyond. He said the initiative would hopefully increase the public’s awareness that the campus was very much open to the public and would increase connections with the local community:

Councillor Mickey Cooper said

“I have recently held a number of meetings between university staff and local residents who were concerned about the lack of greenspace and recreational activities for their children and grandchildren.

“As a result of these discussions the University of Ulster at Magee (UU) have confirmed that their grass pitch will be available for use by local residents over the summer and beyond when not in use.

“They have also outlined various summer schemes being run by the UU which will be open to members of the public, and confirmed special community rates for the use of their fitness facilities.

“In the coming days I will be delivering a leaflet across the residential areas beside the campus so that residents are aware of all the facilities that they are making available. I hope the initiative will increase ties between the UU and the local community going forward”
