Commenting on a major fire at the site of the old St Marys Youth Club in Creggan Derry on Saturday night local Sinn Féin Councillor Kevin Campbell said
“I have been raising concerns about security around this entire site since the demolition started.
“During the past week I spoke with all the various agencies and spoke with residents to let them know what I had been doing on the issue.
“I also put out a number of public appeals for parents to ensure that their children were kept away from this building and the obvious dangers the site presented.
“On Saturday night I visited the old youth club with a number of community activists around 6pm after reports that young people had been in about the building. By the time we got there the young people had ran off.
“I am calling for a collective approach from all agencies to make sure that we get this building demolished and the site cleared as quickly as possible. This situation cannot continue over the coming weeks and months ,especially for residents whose homes are just a few yards away from this building.
