McCallion calls on Education Minister to provide certainty on Youth Work Funding
Sinn Féin’s Elisha McCallion has called on DUP Minister for Education Peter Weir to provide certainty to Youth Workers on programmes such as ‘Extended Provision’.
The Sinn Féin Foyle Assembly Candidate said:
“The Education Authority announced the reinstatement of ‘core’ funding for youth workers, but unfortunately this does not include those youth workers involved in programmes such as ‘Extended Provision’
“Therefore uncertainty still exists over these programmes and the Minister must act to give certainty to these workers.
“These essential services were put in place by then Minister for Education, John O’Dowd aimed at areas most in need. They require Ministerial approval every year and I therefore call on the present Minister to provide this approval without further delay.
“I believe that it is imperative that these jobs be mainstreamed to ensure continuity of services and programmes.
“I will do all in my power to keep everyone informed on any new developments or information as they become available.” CRÍOCH/END
