McCallion confident new A5 legal challenge will fail

A new legal challenge against a section of the A5 Derry to Dublin road upgrade is expected to be unsuccessful, Foyle Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has said.

Commenting after The Department of Infrastructure confirmed a new legal action has been lodged against the £800 million project, Elisha McCallion said: “This latest challenge is disappointing but not unexpected given that a small group of opponents to this vital road development remain determined to delay progress against the wishes of the vast majority in the North West.

“However, having met the Department of Infrastructure recently, I am assured that the development process has been meticulously followed and have every confidence that this legal challenge will be unsuccessful.

“This move is merely a delaying tactic and I hope an early court date can be set so that this issue can be expedited speedily and the construction of the road can begin as early as possible this year.”
