Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion today led a cross-party delegation from the city to meet with British Minister James Brokenshire.
The delegation represented by Sinn Féin, SDLP and DUP met with the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Communities to progress a ‘City Deal’ as part of Strategic Growth Plan for the north west region.
Speaking after the meeting, The Foyle MP said:
“I requested today’s cross-party meeting in order to bring a united voice in putting pressure on the the government to formally announce a City Deal for the north west.
“This is a key element to unlocking the city’s unique circumstances and reaching its full potential as set out in the Strategic Growth Plan, designed and agreed by key stakeholders across the region.
“The Minister agrees there is huge potential for the north west and heard loud and clear that any further delay in an announcement will be detrimental in terms of unlocking that potential and allowing the region to prosper.
“I am pleased that the parties and the Minister are committed to working together in the time ahead to ensure that progress is made so that this vision can become reality.” CRÍOCH/ENDS
