Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has said action is needed from the Irish government to develop the north west region.
The Foyle MP was commenting after meeting senior Irish government officials with Sinn Féin representatives from Derry, Donegal and West Tyrone in Dublin today.
Elisha McCallion said:
“Today’s meeting with Irish government officials was constructive as part of our ongoing campaign to progress the economic development of the north west region.
“We have been working closely with local councils and stakeholders to deliver upon the Strategic Growth Deal which includes a City Deal and financial assistance from both the Irish government and the EU.
“Delivery of this Growth Deal is key to continuing to address decades of systemic underinvestment in the north west to ensure that people are never left behind again.
“We welcome the inclusion of the north west region in the ’The National Planning Framework Ireland 2040’ – but we now need to see action from the Irish government to deliver on their promises.
“It’s important that we unlock the economic potential and key to this development is the completion of projects such as the A5/A6, the expansion of the Magee Campus and the development of the Greencastle Cruise Berth.
“Sinn Féin will continue to press the British and Irish governments to ensure the vital investment needed to transform this region is delivered.” CRÍOCH/ENDS
