Sinn Féin Foyle MP Elisha McCallion has said the appointment of a minister to oversee food supplies is a clear admission by the British government that any Brexit outcome will be an economic disaster.
“The fact that Theresa May has now appointed essentially a ‘food shortages minister’ shows that the British government are no longer keeping up appearances on the impact of Brexit.
“They are finally acknowledging the disastrous Brexit consequences for our economy, our farmers and our families.
“Britain is one of the wealthiest countries in the world, however it is now clear that it has taken a decision that will lead to food supply problems. That is an astonishing admission from a British government.
“The people of the North rejected Brexit that should be respected.”
