Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has encouraged local businesses to get involved in an innovative initiative to improve the business environment in the city.
The Foyle MP said:
“I met today with representatives of the Business Improvement District (BIDs) initiative, Derry and Strabane District Council and City Centre Initiative to discuss plans to set up in the city.
“This initiative benefits both local businesses and the wider community in the city as it seeks to provide added value to the rates contributions paid by businesses.
“The BIDs initiative has already been rolled out in other areas across the north and elsewhere and has had a positive transformative impact by providing businesses with a method of working with statutory agencies to help create a better business environment.
“It can help to improve the physical environment in city centres, increase footfall and reduce crime.
“I would now like to see a feasibility study carried out with a view to bringing the initiative to Derry and I would encourage the local businesses community to get involved and play a part in it.”
