Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney said “Yesterday 19 year old Caoimhin Cassidy was buried in Creggan.
“His family is grieving, and much of the commentary around his death has not in any way assisted them to come to terms with their loss and its impact.
“His funeral was used by a small number of people to somehow make some sort of statement.
“What that was, no one either understands or wants. It was anti community.
“Caoimhin’s family made that known as did the people of Creggan and throughout the City.
“I want to commend everyone, in particular residents, community workers, youth workers, political and civic representatives who worked with everyone with responsibility and who collectively ensured that calm was restored to the area.
“They do not seek praise, nor public acknowledgement.
“They just do what needs to be done.
