The Foyle MLA said;
“RTÉ’s long wave service is hugely important to people living in rural areas who cannot access the FM signal.
“News that RTÉ were closing this service caused distress among some listeners who were concerned about losing their service altogether.
“I welcome the news that RTÉ will continue this service until next year.
“I would also encourage RTÉ to use this additional time to consult with listeners and provide alternatives so listeners in the North can continue to access their programming.
“RTÉ also needs to invest in their broadcast infrastructure to ensure that people throughout the island can enjoy equal access to its services.”
