Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has welcomed today’s high court ruling to quash a decision not to employ an ex-prisoner.
Mr McCartney said;
“I welcome today’s decision at the High Court to quash a decision not to employ ex-prisoner Martin Neeson.
“The court found that the decision to remove him from his job ‘flies in the face of being a rational decision’.
“It was unjust and unfair and today’s judgement is a vindication of Martin Neeson’s position.
“Ex-prisoners have and continue to make a valued contribution to many aspects of society, particularly peace building.
“Unfortunately however, many ex-prisoners still face obstacles in terms of employment, insurance and other issues.
“All remaining barriers which ex-prisoners face should be removed and we will continue to support ex-prisoners and their advocates.” Ends/Críoch
