Sinn Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has welcomed Derry City’s Council support for this year’s Foyle Cup.
Cllr. McGinley said: “ Year after year the Foyle Cup exceeds expectations in terms of numbers competing in the competition and visiting the city.
This year’s event has attracted over 200 teams who will compete in a number of categories and the city will host thousands of visitors during the course of the competition.
Derry City Council will be primarily responsible for supplying many of the pitches but council staff will also assist with organisational issues such as stewarding, pitch maintenance, toilet provision and administration.
Council’s support for the Foyle Cup represents a significant investment on behalf of the city and district and I would call on other agencies and departments to assist the organisers in meeting the demands of the event.
I would take this opportunity to congratulate everyone involved in putting the Foyle Cup together and to wish them every success for this year’s tournament.”
