Sinn Féin Councillor Caoimhe McKnight has reiterated a call to ban fixed odds betting terminals.
“Gambling is a problem throughout society but these machines are widely regarded as a highly addictive and accessible outlet which allow people to lose huge sums of money in a small space of time with no real control or regulation driving them into debt and quite often poverty.
“There are almost 1000 of these machines in outlets across the North and countless examples of the misery they have caused. They should be banned and greater regulation of online gambling put in place.
“Everyone should be educated around gambling and the dangers that exist with it. They should know that there is help and advice available for those affected by gambling.”
