Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed the announcement that a public inquiry into the A5 road development is likely later this year.
“I asked regional development minister Danny Kennedy for an update on the public consultation on the upgrade of the A5.
“The minister replied that 18 responses had been received to the latest consultation and are now being considered by his department.
“The next stage will see the publication of the draft vesting orders together with the environmental statement for the upgrade.
“That will also involve a six-week public consultation, which will include a series of exhibitions along the route.
“After that a decision will be made on holding a public inquiry but the minister has indicated it is likely that such an inquiry will be held by the end of the year.
“The upgrade of the A5 is crucial for the economic regeneration of the north west.
“I would urge the minister to ensure all necessary steps are completed as soon as possible so this vital infrastructural project can be completed.” Ends/Críoch
