Sinn Féin MLA Maeve McLaughlin has welcomed plans for a new health and wellbeing campus at Altnagelvin Hospital.
“These plans for a new purpose-built health and well being centre at Altnagelvin Hospital for cancer patients and others with long-term conditions are welcome.
“This will be a joint project between MacMillan and the Western Trust and will provide an information and support centre, particularly for patients with cancer, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, arthritis and hypertension.
“As well as offering information and support for patients, it will also provide support to their families.
“Work is due to begin on the construction of the new facility, as well as the refurbishment of Agnes Jones House, in the Autumn and is expected to be completed by late 2016.
“This follows on from the development of the cancer centre and the construction of the £74 million new wing at Altnagelvin.
“These latest proposals are a further indication that we are now eventually seeing significant investment in the health service in the north west.”
