Minister needs to engage over future plans for the Cottages facility

chair of the Assembly’s Health committee Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Maeve McLaughlin said MLA MAEVE MCLAUGHLIN

“The Minister needs to engage directly with the Western Trust, families and those working in the Cottages facility here in Derry ,many of whom  who fear for their futures.

He must reflect on the views of the families about any decisions around the Cottages which will impact on the must vulnerable in our community. There is clearly a need for such a facility in Derry and many of the families have told me they are fearful their child may end up having to take a seventy mile round trip to avail of any new facility.

Back in December I challenged the health minister, Jim Wells, in the Assembly over the plans to reduce services at ‘The Cottages.’

The proposals have caused a great deal of concern in the city, particularly among parents of children who use this valuable and much-needed facility.

I am renewing my call on the Minister to halt  any plans that may be under consideration to reduce or relocate the services at ‘The Cottages.’
