Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has commended the school leadership at Thornhill College on the decision to close for a week to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
The Foyle MLA said:
“The decision by Thornhill College to close for a week as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic is the right one. Last week I met with the Principal along the Foyle Learning Community and have asked the Minister to listen to Principals and provide the support required.
“Many pupils and parents are concerned about the spread of the pandemic and this closure will allow the school to carry out a complete deep clean.
“Online learning will be offered from Tuesday so that education can continue.
“This will not have been an easy decision for the school but it is the right one in the interests of keeping pupils, staff and the wider community safe.
“It also serves as a reminder to all of us to follow the public health guidelines and do all we can to help stop the spread of the virus.”
