Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan has met with the PSNI District Commander in Derry to discuss a recent incident in which an PSNI officer wore an RUC badge during a house search in the city.
The Foyle MLA said:
“Martina Anderson MLA and I met today with the PSNI District Commander in Derry to discuss a recent incident where a PSNI officer wore an RUC badge on his uniform during a search operation in the Creggan area of the city.
“At the meeting I made it clear that this was unacceptable and could undermine public confidence in the PSNI.
“It was confirmed to me at the meeting that this broke the PSNI’s own rules and that the officer involved, as well as his supervisors, will now face an internal investigation.
“I welcome this confirmation from the PSNI. We will continue to raise concerns with the PSNI over issues where we believe behaviour does not meet the standard of policing that communities except and deserve.” Ends/Críoch
