Mullan welcomes use of new cancer drug in the north

Sinn Féin Foyle  MLA Karen Mullan has  welcomed the  news that the Department of Health is to make the cancer drug Niraparib available to women in the north  who have ovarian cancer.

Karen Mullan said

“Last year a game changing new ovarian cancer drug Niraparib was made available to women across Britain but women in North of Ireland were unable to access this new treatment.

“I am delighted that the Department for Health has approved the decision to make treatments approved for the Cancer Drugs Fund in England available here for the first time.

“We know that with the right investment in new treatments, more women can and will survive this disease.

“I would like to commend campaign groups such as Target Ovarian Cancer and others who lobbied long and hard to make this drug available.
