Museum funding a step towards realising the potential of Ebrington – Anderson

Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has welcomed confirmation from the Executive Office (TEO) that it is committed to providing more than £3 million for a new flagship museum at Ebrington.

The Foyle MLA said:  “This confirmation of funding for a museum is another step towards realising the potential of the Ebrington site.
“23 of the 24 buildings on the site are now either leased or subject to Expressions of Interest with over £38m of funding now invested by The Executive Office to develop the overall site.

“One of the key strategic projects for Ebrington is the development of a new flagship museum by Derry City and Strabane District Council which will tell the story of Derry using a strong maritime theme.

“I have been working with officials for months to ensure that TEO would provide support for the project.  I am delighted that the Joint First Minister was able to publicly confirm to me in the Assembly this week that £3.3m pounds of TEO funding was being earmarked for the development of the museum.

“I will be working with our local council and other government departments in the coming weeks to ensure the museum can move to the construction stage as soon as possible. This project will be a game changer in terms of improving the visitor experience for tourists coming to the city and will massively increase footfall and visitor spend at the Ebrington site”
