Sinn Féin MLA Martina Anderson has said new delays to the A5 upgrade will come as a blow to all those awaiting its construction.
The Foyle MLA said:
“Indications that the public inquiry will reopen in 2022 will come as a massive disappointment to all those who have already waited far too long for this vital road scheme.
“Huge questions will be undoubtedly raised as to why issues need further consideration and were not already fully taken into account in last year’s inquiry and previous environmental statements.
“The A5 is essential for tackling regional inequality, transforming the economic fortunes of the north west, and for vastly improving road safety for the whole region.
“Further delay is without a doubt a blow for the entire north west.”
