'From Conflict to Peace - A Female Perspective' Public TalkPublished: 7 March, 2010
An interesting and insightful talk, examining the role that women have played in the recent conflict, and the road to peace, will be held next Saturday 13th March in Queen's University, Belfast at 1pm in the Student's Union Club Rooms 3 and 4.
Jennifer McCann MLA and Moyle Distict Council Mayor Cara McShane are among some of those confirmed to speak.
The event will focus on the many women who have positively influenced the political landscape in Ireland, and how they have played key roles in various stages of the conflict. It will explore why fewer women are actively involved in political life in general and how society can change the current gender imbalance and ensure more young women feel confident and proud enough to stand up and have their say.
Uladh Ógra Shinn Féin Gender Equality Officer Evan Maxwell said,
"We have a number of excellent speakers, who will speak from their vast experience and guide the discussion which will undoubtedly flow from the talk. The task of ensuring a more equal society is everyone's business, and hopefully this talk can go someway in sparking an interest and an activism that can change the inequalities and wrongs that currently exist. Everyone is welcome, see you there."
