MacLochlainn welcomes fundraising campaign to buy Irish ship to participate in Second Freedom FlotillaPublished: 1 September, 2010
Speaking in Dublin at the launch of the Irish Ship To Gaza Campaign to buy an Irish ship to participate in the second Freedom Flotilla - humanitarian aid convoy to Gaza, Derry Sinn Féin Councillor Gerry MacLochlainn said: "I am pleased to be part of this coalition to raise money for an Irish Boat to participate in Freedom Flotilla 2 aimed at breaking the illegal and inhuman siege of Gaza by Israeli forces. "The primary objective of the flotilla is to break the siege of Gaza. This aim has been set by civil society in Gaza. The people of Gaza do not want to become aid-dependent and are insisting that the international community see an ending of the siege as an immediate objective. "I know that Irish people will respond to this campaign with the same generosity and commitment as they have to other international crises and makes sure that Ireland plays a prominent role in this historic mission. The Irish Ship to Gaza Campaign is calling on people throughout Ireland to donate generously to ensure that we are strongly represented on the next Freedom Flotilla. Donations can be lodged directly to the Irish Ship to Gaza bank account. Details can be found on the website www.irishshiptogaza.org." ENDS
