No room for age discrimination – Kelly

Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has said that young people have the same right to protection in buying products and services as everyone else in society.

Councillor Colly Kelly stated,

“I am disappointed that the new legislation on Goods, Facilities and Services will exclude people under the age of eighteen.

“This new legislation fails to cover the rights of the young and needs to be challenged.

“For example if a child needs a prosthetic hand they may only have access to an adult one but have no right to appeal this decision and this is not acceptable.

“We need to move away from age discrimination whether it against old people or young people if we are to create a society of equals.

“Equality needs to be inclusive of all ages, creeds, colours and sexual orientation and Sinn Féin will continue to promote the equality agenda until everyone in our society have equal rights under the law.”
