Sinn Féin MLA Martin McGuinness has said progress is being made towards a Programme For Government but it appears that the SDLP are utterly confused about the process.
Speaking alongside Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams TD at Stormont, Mr McGuinness said;
“We are trying to put in place a Programme for Government that will see maximum buy-in from civic society.
“I believe that work on the Programme for Government is progressing and I would expect to see the d’Hondt mechanism in place next week.
“A lot of work was done before the election and the SDLP were involved in that and knew the approach was based on the Scottish and Finnish model. The SDLP now appear utterly confused about the process and don’t understand what they signed up for in the development of this programme.”
Gerry Adams said;
“Martin and the Assembly team are putting together a Programme for Government and those of us with a mandate in the Oireachtas are working alongside others to make sure that people’s rights are protected, public services are supported and the work to unite people across Ireland is advanced.” CRÍOCH/ENDS
