Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has called on local authorities to keep people informed of the changes to local government as part of the Review of Public Administration.
Speaking ahead of meetings of the new councils this week, he said;
“This is the biggest shake up of local government for 40 years.
“While the new councils do not come into being formally until next April, newly elected councillors will meet this week to set up shadow structures in preparation for the changeover.
“There is a degree of uncertainty out there about what this will mean and what powers and responsibilities will have.
“The new local authorities have a duty to explain the changes to local ratepayers.
“In some cases information is available but all of the new bodies should ensure that the public are kept up to date about the changes through their websites, social media and the media.
“Information is also available on the Review of Public Administration website at www.rpani.gov.uk
