Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan, commenting following two road traffic accidents at the junction of Racecourse Road and the shopping complex there last week has said that if Transport, N.I, (Roads Service) doesn’t do something to make this junction safer then someone could be seriously injured or killed.
Over the last number of years there have been several road traffic accidents at this junction and thankfully no one has been killed.
On Tuesday and again on Thursday night of last week two road traffic accidents happened at this junction .And I hope that anyone injured in these accidents makes a speedy recovery.
There have been concerns raised with me about this junction since the Roads Service took away the layby alongside the bookies and the Shantallow House complex. I have been raising for some time now the high volume traffic going through the area and problems that it brings for motorist and pedestrians.
When you’re driving out onto the Racecourse Road from the shopping area cars and vans can block your view which makes it difficult to see oncoming traffic going in direction of Shantallow.
I have now written to Transport N.I calling for them to carry out an urgent review of this junction and for immediate action to be taken.
