Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan MLA has welcomed the news that local libraries are beginning to reopen on a phased basis.
The Foyle MLA said “Its great news that the Central Library on Foyle Street has reopened and that the other libraries throughout the city will reopen shortly.
“Our libraries are a lifeline for many in getting reading material, research for students studying or for others a social setting to meet friends. Those facilities closed overnight due to COVID19 leaving some users cut off from all those resources.
“These reopened libraries will be offering a Book and Collect service where members of the public can ring up and ask for a collection of books to be left aside and at the same time arrange a contactless collection.
“If people are not already a member of their local library, I would encourage them to join up today. It’s important that we support our library services and ensure that as many people as possible get access to the wide range of services on offer.”
