The latest report warning of an economic downturn in the event of a crash Brexit is further evidence of the ‘madness’ that the DUP is prepared to force on our island, Sinn Féin Foyle MP Elisha McCallion has said.
She was commenting after a new report by the Fraser of Allander Institute (FAI), found that the North’s economy would reduce by at least three percent due to Brexit.
Elisha McCallion commented: “This report commissioned by the Department for the Economy again sets out some of the very real and negative consequences that the DUP are prepared to force upon our island with their support for the hard Brexit madness of the Tory party.
“It concludes that all the potential Brexit scenarios will have a negative economic impact with between 15,000 and 18,500 fewer jobs while other forecasts have predicted that 40,000 jobs could be lost.
“That is all evidence of the reckless approach that the DUP is taking by supporting a hard Brexit and opposing the backstop and the withdrawal agreement that would at least insulate our economy from the worst impacts of Brexit.
“The DUP need to step back, listen to the facts, listen to the genuine fears of the business community, the farming community and wider society and abandon their delusional approach.”
