Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has called the publication of the Human Rights Consortium’s report ‘Rights at Risk’ a ‘damning indictment’ of the scale of Brexit’s impact of citizens’ rights in Ireland.
The Foyle MP said:
“This a welcome and timely report from the Human Rights Consortium, setting out the expanse of rights issues to be put at risk as a result of a Tory-DUP Brexit.
“The report also contains several serious Brexit concerns, as identified by the public. The Peace Process, increased austerity, assaults on welfare rights, the rights of migrants, and other serious economic and social concerns were highlighted by stakeholders.
“It is becoming increasingly clear that civic society is speaking with one voice on its opposition to Brexit. As the disastrous DUP-Tory Brexit crusade limps on, our communities and economy are increasingly put at risk.
“Designated Special Status for the north within the EU is the only credible means by which we can address many of the concerns raised in this report, and protect the rights and livelihoods of citizens.”
