Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said the rights and entitlements of people with disabilities must be protected.
Ms Anderson said;
“I was disappointed today that the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture voted for a legislative opinion which is bad for the rights of people with disabilities in terms of accessing audiovisual media services.
“It is unacceptable that the European People’s Party and the Socialists & Democrats voted in favour of this.
“We need to ensure the rights of people with disabilities are safeguarded at all costs.
“I have brought campaigners for disability rights to the European Parliament and the EU has been good for people with disabilities.
“Sinn Féin will continue to champion the rights of people with disabilities in the EU.”
