Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said the Rural Development Programme will drive economic and social development in rural areas.
“The £623 million Rural Development Programme benefits farming and food sectors, rural communities and businesses and the environment.
“My party colleague Declan McAleer asked the Agriculture Minister Michelle O’Neill how the programme would enhance all-Ireland cooperation and in her response in the Assembly, the minister said the scheme encourages and promotes cooperation between Local Action Groups (LAGs) north and south.
“Four million pounds has been ringfenced to cover the cost of projects funded through the all-Ireland cooperation scheme. And officials from agriculture departments north and south are working together to organise an event in the spring which Local Action Groups (LAGs) from across Ireland will be invited to.
“This highlights the value of all-Ireland working and Sinn Féin’s commitment to promote and develop the agriculture sector across the island of Ireland.”
