The local Education spokesperson was speaking following reports that the Department of Education is facing £105m of cash pressures in 2017/18.

She said:

“The pressures on the Education budget are the direct result of repeated cuts imposed by the Tory government which have seen more than £1 billion slashed from the North’s finances.

“These same Tory and austerity cuts to public services are set to continue, with the support of the DUP.

“School children and frontline services like education should not be forced to pay the price of budget cuts.

“Sinn Féin will continue to work to ensure the education system is adequately resourced and will continue to oppose Tory/DUP cuts.”
