Schools laptop initiative -Mullan

Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan MLA thanked Ulster University and their funders for supporting the schools laptop initiative.

The Foyle MLA said “I identified when the schools closed that many pupils were at home working the Post Primary schools, community sector and private donors I started this initiative. And I am very grateful to pleased Ulster University and their funders Santander and UCIT Community Finance Ireland for supporting and providing local schools with laptops.

“This scheme was able to provide lap tops for pupils at the six non selective post primary schools across the city.

“In my role as Education spokesperson I see on a daily basis the need for laptops for pupils to continue their educational studies at home. There is a myth out there that homes are filled with electronic gadgets. In many homes it’s a shared computer between two or three children or no computer at all.

“It’s important that children have access to a device to partake in online learning and keep up with their studies, especially  for pupils studying for key exams and doing coursework.

“We are asking anyone who can donate or support this scheme to please get in touch with me.
