Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Fleming has urged farmers in the Derry area to use the online system to apply for the Single Farm Payment before next month’s deadline.
He commented: “The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) has stated that only 32 percent of applications have been received to date. This represents only 8,000 applications out of a total of 25,000.
“The deadline for applications is May 15th so I would strongly advise farmers that the online system of applying is much quicker and easier.
“It is crucial that we get the message out to farmers that by applying early and online it will speed up the entire process. Anyone who requires assistance with the online process should also contact their local DAERA office.
