Sinn Féin MP Elisha McCallion has expressed solidarity with the RCN ‘Scrap the Cap’ campaign in advance of their rally in London today.
The Foyle MP said her party colleagues Paul Maskey MP and the Sinn Féin MP for West Tyrone, Barry McElduff, will be in attendance at the RCN rally, followed by the ‘Scrap the Cap’ protest meeting in Portcullis House.
Speaking in advance of the day’s events, Elisha McCallion MP said:
“Sinn Féin fully support RCN and the ‘Scrap the Cap’ campaign, and look forward to standing with them today.
“Nurses provide a vital service and deserve a fair wage for their work.
“Like most public sector workers, they have been subjected to years of relentless Tory austerity.
“Now the Tories have new partners in Westminster to continue their attacks on the public sector.
“The DUP’s first act in support of the Tory government was to vote for an effective cut to the wages of emergency and public service workers.
“Sinn Féin will continue to oppose austerity, defend frontline services and campaign for adequate funding for our public services and our public sector workers.”
