Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD has welcomed a resolution by Representative Tom Suozzi, with bipartisan support from Representative Peter King, in support of the McGuinness Principles.
The resolution, which was introduced on the floor of the United States Congress, also supports the avoidance of a hard border and protection for the Good Friday Agreement in the Brexit process.
Representative Suozzi serves on the Ways and Means Committee which is responsible for any future Trade Deal with the British Government.
Speaking following publication of the Resolution, Sinn Féin President Mary Lou McDonald TD said:
“I welcome the introduction of this resolution in the House of Representatives by Rep. Suozzi with the support of Rep. King.
“Recently Sinn Féin chief negotiator Conor Murphy briefed the Congressional Friends of Ireland Group on the chaos of Brexit and its impact on Ireland.
“American legislators have played a crucial role in establishing peace, prosperity and progress in Ireland.
“This resolution demonstrates once more that American legislators will not stand for the undermining of the Good Friday Agreement and the rights of citizens or the imposition of a hard Border on the island of Ireland.”
