Sinn Féin will continue to pressure the Department of Education to reinstate sports development funding the party’s Education spokesperson Karen Mullan has said.
The Foyle MLA was speaking as an increasing number of schools voiced concern at the impact of the cut on children.
“Closing the Sports Development Grant will have a hugely detrimental impact on GAA and IFA coaching schemes and could affect up to 50 jobs, 400 schools and approximately 40,000 children.
“It means that some children simply will not partake in any form of physical activity throughout the week.
“The Department for Education needs to reconsider their decision urgently and Sinn Féin will continue to press for the reversal of these cuts in order to protect front line services for children.
