Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has called on the Department of Health to engage with trade unions to achieve a pay for health and social care workers across the north.
The party’s local health spokesperson said:
“Sinn Féin support a Pay Deal for health and social care workers in the north of Ireland.
“The Department of Health need to engage meaningfully with unions in relation to reaching a pay deal.
“This is crucial given ongoing workforce pressures, particularly on the retention and recruitment of nurses, which is a problem faced by health services across the island.
“Health and social care workforce is the biggest asset to services north and south and this is why it is important to send solidarity to nurses in the south taking industrial action for better pay and conditions.
“Recruitment and retention issues need to be addressed by investing in our health service workforce rather than relying on agency staffing.” Críoch/Ends
