Sinn Féin elected representatives Karen Mullan MLA, and local Councillors Caoimhe McKnight and Mickey Cooper have welcomed the consultation which took place in Da Vinci’s Hotel this week outlining preliminary proposals for the dualling of the A2 Buncrana Road.
They said it was another milestone in advancing a vital infrastructural project for the city.
Councillor Caoimhe McKnight said
“We were delighted to attend the event and engage with both residents and representatives from the Department for Infrastructure on the plans which were generally received very positively by those who attended.
Some residents living in proximity to the proposed route obviously had specific queries for the Department and we have committed to work with these residents to ensure they are fully consulted. And have access to all relevant information and updates going forward.
We would also emphasise that this is only the first stage of what will be an exhaustive consultation process so there will be plenty of further opportunity for residents, businesses and the general public to make further suggestions of how the scheme can be refined to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
Sinn Féin will continue our lobby of central government to secure funding for the scheme which is absolutely vital to improve traffic flow in the area and to develop the cross border economic corridor between Derry and Donegal”
