Sinn Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has said that statistics released today showing a slight 0.5% increase in the economy is of no comfort to the average family.
The Foyle Sinn Féin MLA said:
ʺFigures released by the Statistics Office today show a slight 0.5% expansion in the economy in the July-to-September period.
ʺThis is certainly no reason for celebration by the thousands of families who have seen their household budgets steadily eroded since the result of the Brexit referendum earlier this year.
ʺHousehold budgets are facing home heating fuel price increases of upto £70 for 500 litres as well as across the board higher weekly shopping bills.
ʺThe reality is that the true cost of Brexit on a daily basis is negatively hitting peoples cost of living with little prospect of relief in sight.
ʺThe people of the North voted to remain in the EU and that vote needs to be respected. ʺ CRÍOCH/END
