Sinn Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has appealed to parents to warn their children about the dangers of crossing the busy Lonemoor Road and appealed to more people to use the pedestrian crossing a few yards away.
Councillor Kelly said “I have been approached by a number of residents and motorists concerned that there could be a very serious accident at the junctions of Blighs Lane and Lonemoor Road following a number of incidents there.
One motorist reported to me a group of children on bikes came down the hill at Bligh’s Lane didn’t stop at the junction and flew straight out in front of him and he said it was sheer luck they didn’t hit his car with awful consequences.
Residents I have spoken to would tell you this is a common occurrence at this junction with small children also taking changes running across the road. A lot of time cars are travelling in excess of the 30mph on this stretch of road.
I would urge local parents to tell their children about the dangers of crossing this busy road and would encourage more people to use the pedestrian crossing a few yards away.
