Sinn Féin group leader on Derry City and Strabane district council Councillor Paul Fleming has welcomed the launch of the Strategic Growth Plan and the comprehensive consultation that has taken place across local levels and with strategic partners.
Councillor Fleming said “The consultation around the Strategic Growth Plan has been a very substantial piece of work. Sinn Féin is contributing to this and have put forward a submission.
It’s important that we get this right to ensure that we help shape the plans for the council and the North West region across many areas for the years ahead.
The economy and regional infrastructural development are key drivers for economic progress for the North West and job creation.
We need our tourism product to further reach its full potential in terms of increasing visitor numbers to the city and district and ensure that adequate cultural infrastructure is invested in to allow cultural activity to be city-wide and reach out into our rural communities.
There needs to be continued provision of funding for rural projects and its crucial that there is forward planning to ensure that any loss in future Rural Development Fund( RDF)funding is factored into council’s discussions with central government.
I would like to thank Council staff for the considerable work which has been carried out thus far on the Growth Plan, all those who participated in this consultation and we look forward to contributing to the next stages of this vital project.
