Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Raymond McCartney has said Sinn Féin will continue to support the campaign to locate a medical centre in the north west.
Speaking in the Assembly, the Foyle MLA said;
“The need for the expansion of Magee for the development of the economy is clear.
“Sinn Féin has been behind the campaign to have a medical centre in the north west for a number of years.
“We have met with the University of Ulster to discuss the proposed post-graduate medical centre at Magee.
“It is ideally placed, together with Altnagelvin hospital and C-TRIC, for the location of a medical centre. Also, the cross-border nature of the new cancer
“It would also help with the recruitment and retention of staff, particularly specialists. Research has shown that medical staff who train in a location tend to stay there.
“We will continue to support the campaign to have a medical centre established in the north west.”
