Sinn Féin Housing spokesperson Councillor Patricia Logue has said called on the Department of Communities and Housing Executive to ensure that funding for the ‘Supporting People’ programme is protected.
She said “Supporting People helps some of the most vulnerable people in society to live independently, including those who are disabled, elderly, and victims of domestic violence.
“Helping people to live in their own home and to remain part of the community is better for the health and well-being of the person involved.
“Supporting People providers are already financially stretched in providing vital services.
“We need to protect this programme in the 2019/2020 budget, and ensure that all efforts are made to prevent any cut to Supporting People.”
