Sinn Féin MEP Martina Anderson has said victims of Thalidomide should be entitled to compensation.
Ms Anderson said;
“Many Thalidomide survivors right across Europe have suffered for more than 50 years.
“These people are getting older and their health conditions are deteriorating and require financial assistance.
“I have met victims and survivors of Thalidomide and have been moved by their courage and determination to seek redress for what happened to them.
“The German government set up a Special Needs Fund to help victims with their medical care.
“All member states across Europe should support the European Parliament’s call for the German government to compensate victims of Thalidomide.”
