Sinn Féin Foyle MLA Elisha McCallion has said the Irish government must work with all the parties and secure the interests of Ireland.
“The EU Council have laid out negotiations positions which places a priority on the need to safeguard the Good Friday agreement, the rights of Irish citizens in the north and the impact across Ireland of Brexit.
“We believe this position does not go far enough and that the Taoiseach failed to fully harness the good will to Ireland, North and South from the other EU members.
“What is now clear, following the leaks from the meeting between Jean-Claude Juncker and Theresa May is the Tory party and Brexit supporters are delusional about the negotiations and impact of Brexit.
“The coming election is about the Tory Party consolidating its power. It is an opportunity for voters to stand against the Tories and the parties that support Brexit.
“Theresa May will not be able to dismiss again the views of the majority of voters, when they are articulated at the EU parliament by Sinn Féin and at the Dáil.
“The safeguards and flexibility that the north and all of Ireland requires will be secured by the EU side and not the British government.
“The Taoiseach must up his game, work with all the parties and secure the interests of Ireland, North and South.”
