Sinn Féin Councillor Tony Hassan has condemned the wanton vandalism that took place at traffic lights at Madam Bank Road this week
Councillor Hassan said
A number of young people set fire to the traffic lights at around 8.30pm .It caused problems for road users, and is the second time these lights have been set on fire in the last six weeks.
These lights have been repeatedly attacked since they were introduced in 2012.They provide safety for pedestrians, particularly children going to school.
This is also a major road which services several housing developments and carries a high volume of cross border traffic.
I am appealing to whoever is carrying out this nonsense to stop. Attacking any sort of road safety measure is placing the lives of motorists and pedestrians in danger.
It is local people who are suffering and their lives being disrupted by these senseless incidents and that is something no one wants.
