Sinn Féin Councillor Sandra Duffy has condemned vandals who set fire to plastic safety barriers and traffic cones being used for roadworks on the Madams Bank Road. Building materials were also taken from a nearby building site and torched.
The Fire Service and the PSNI were both called out to attend the scene on Friday night.
Councillor Sandra Duffy said
I am appealing to whoever is carrying out this nonsense to stop. Attacking any sort of road safety measure is placing the lives of motorists and pedestrians in danger.
This is also a major road which services several housing developments and carries a high volume of cross border traffic.
It is local people who are suffering and their lives being disrupted by these senseless incidents and that is something no one wants.
